The special grand jury report in Fulton County, Georgia, was released Friday after nobody raised any objections to making the documents public before a court-imposed deadline. However, the members of the special grand jury recommended their report be published, and according to Georgia law, this means the judge is required to make it public, barring objections, according to court filings. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney — who presided over the special grand jury and the separate grand jury that later approved charges in the case — said on August 28 that anyone who had concerns about publicly releasing the full report should raise an objection by Wednesday of this week. “Any concerned party that believes something less than everything should be published has until 6 September 2023 to file an objection to complete publication,” McBurney wrote. “If no objections are filed by 5:00pm on 6 September 2023, the remainder of the final report will be added to the docket.”There is no indication that anyone raised any objections, so the full report was released Friday as planned.

WASHINGTON, March 27 (Reuters) - Georgia prosecutors have until May 1 to respond to former President Donald Trump's effort to quash a grand jury's final report into his alleged attempt to overturn his 2020 election defeat in the U.S. state. Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, who presided over the grand jury investigation, issued the order on Monday, two months after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said decisions on whether to charge Trump were "imminent." Last week Trump filed a motion to quash the final report, excerpts of which were made public. According to the excerpts, the grand jury concluded there was no widespread fraud, despite Trump's claims the vote was rigged against him. The special grand jury in this case, unlike a regular grand jury, was not empowered to issue indictments, only to make recommendations.

His court filing also sought to disqualify the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, which has been conducting the criminal probe, from being involved in the case. The Atlanta grand jury earlier this year finished hearing testimony and reviewing evidence submitted by prosecutors. The panel then recommended the filing of criminal charges against a number of people, who have not been publicly identified. The grand jury focused particularly on a Jan. 2, 2021, phone call, during which Trump asked Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find 11,780 votes" for Trump. Trump's 483-page court filing argues that the grand jury "was conducted under an unconstitutional statute, through an illegal and unconstitutional process."
